This past week, the cartoonists who pen B.C. and Brewster Rockit focused on the topic of New Year’s resolutions. In a humorous, tongue-in-cheek manner, they pointed out how we become less idealistic, more realistic, and perhaps more fatalistic as time goes by. We begin to settle rather than strive.
While that may be true of some of our personal habits, we should not let that attitude creep into our approach towards spiritual growth. Our lives should not be defined by the successes or failures of the past. Instead, we should press forward towards greater spiritual maturity, deeper faith, and a closer walk with God.
“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13–14)
