Why doesn’t God answer my prayers? Why doesn’t he work in my life? Why does he do amazing things in other people’s lives, but seems so powerless and impotent in mine?
Rather than criticize and complain about God, maybe we need to examine our own lives. Perhaps the answer lies in our own wrongdoing.
In Isaiah 59:1–2, the prophet makes an insightful statement.
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
When God seems distant, silent, and powerless, we need to examine our own hearts to see if we have done something to push him away or block his power in our lives. As an old bumper sticker used to read, “If you feel far from God, guess who moved?”
