On Target is a collection of rambling thoughts floating through the mind of Mark Wheeler – a husband, father, pastor, teacher, author, and wannabe theologian living in New England.  Mark has been in ministry since 1986, serving in various pastoral positions–christian education, singles ministry, adult ministries, missions, and senior pastor. In September 2012, Mark joined the staff of First Central Bible Church in Chicopee, MA, as senior pastor. He also serves as an instructor for Walk Thru the Bible Ministries.

I started this blog for several reasons:

  • My wife suggested I write one. Being the ever-dutiful husband, I listened. ;-} Truthfully, I listened because my wife is wise and I value and trust her opinions.
  • I had published a handful of articles over the years and served as a free-lance writer for a couple of devotional magazines. But between rejection notices, changes in editorial staff, having fewer publishable or marketable ideas, and the general busyness of life, family, and ministry, I had gotten out of the habit of writing. I had been asking God to give me an open door for writing when my wife suggested starting a blog.
  • Blogging allows me to write without the pressure of worrying whether or not my thoughts and style meet an editor’s criteria.
  • I write what is on my heart and try to practice my wordsmithing craft. If it encourages the 2 or 3 faithful readers, so much the better.

      Hi Diane,
Thanks for the compliment. I’m glad you enjoyed the series. With us being in transition at the moment, I don’t have a way to copy and make cds. Feel free to download the messages onto your computer and burn your own cds. Thanks again.

Pastor Mark, I love your photos of the Seattle skyline and the Bremerton-Seattle ferry. I would like to use one of the photos as a profile picture on my Facebook page but will not do so without permission. Would this be alright?

Mark, I am a graphic designer that resides in the Pacific Northwest. I was performing a Google search for ferry / Puget Sound stock photography images to use on a current client project. Your photo ( popped up in the search. Would would you consider granting permission for temporary use of this photo as a background image? I would be happy to pay a small royalty fee. Beautiful photos!

Just checking – do you own copyright on the wonderful graphic relating to Colossians on this page – ? If so, could I request usage for my church announcement sheet & possible website usage?

Romayne, Thanks for your comment and question. If I recall correctly, I saw a similar idea and then created my own. Feel free to use it in your church.

Ahh Mark – thank you SO much. It’s an awesome graphic & the lay minister who;s currently doing a sermon series on it was just overjoyed when I showed it to her as she felt it summed up the book perfectly.
    Many blessings🙂

Sir, I am developing some lessons on the Supremacy of Jesus and found your artwork I would like to use this. I do not plan on selling any of my lessons but eventually would ask for donations to my ministry. Do you own the piece of art on that page? If so, may I have permission to use it? Thank you.

Hi Paul, Thanks for your note. I found the idea for the graphic and then created my own. You have my permission to use it, but I ask that you credit where you got it.
