UEFC 4: The life of David

2 Chronicles 16:9 contains an intriguing phrase. “For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” 1 Samuel 13:14 expresses it this way, “The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart.” God is looking for people who are sold out, completely devoted, who have a heart for him.

But how do you develop a heart for God when you come from a dysfunctional family? when you are surrounded by people who hate you? when you never know who might want to stab you in the back? How do you remain devoted to God when you are isolated for hours, days, or even weeks at a time? How do you stay faithful to God when your own internal desires threaten to derail your life? when your anger boils up? when your lust conspires to take over? How do you become a man or a woman after God’s own heart?

If those phrases describe your life, you will identify with David, who went from being a lowly shepherd, the forgotten son is a household of leaders to the greatest King in Israel’s history. David made big mistakes, he endured devastating troubles, yet he proved faithful to his God. He was a man after God’s own heart. To learn more, listen to the sermons in this series.
